Camps to Kids:

    TWI for the Children camps for children in Serbia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro -  July 2009.  The 2009 camps for children in the Balkans completed camps at two schools in Serbia and four schools in Kosovo plus  camps for orphanages in Sarajevo,  Zenica and Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Bijela in Montenegro. In Sarajevo TWI held  a camp for Roma children.

 

    TWI for the Children camp for Special Needs Children and Family in Bosnia.   TWI  hosted families and special needs children to a weekend retreat at the Monastery at Rama in central Bosnia. Fifty-four children and adults were hosted at the monastery at Rama in central Bosnia. These families were treated to  games crafts,  and provided with wonderful meals by the staff of the monastery. Time was provided for swimming and walks around the lake. This will be the ninth year that TWI  provide this weekend for these families from Sarajevo.  

 

   New Jersey Synod camps for Children in Bosnia and Herzegovina -  June 2009. This camp for children in Bosnia and Herzegovina  took volunteers from the New Jersey Lutheran Synod to  towns in Bosnia-Herzegovina. This  project  covered towns throughout the entire country. The teams hosted more than 1,500 children during a three week period in 2009. 

International Studies:

    Balkan Scholarship Students. During school year ending June 2009, TWI  sponsored a Bosnian university student at Anatolia College, Greece. Senad graduated in June 2009.  In 2008, TWI sponsored  two students at Anatolia College in Greece and one student completed his under-graduate work  from the Indianapolis University in the United States. In September 2009, Dzan Sijercic, a high school student from Sarajevo began study in New Jersey to complete his senior year.

    Leadership Training Workshop in Montenegro.  In 2009, The TWI Leadership Training Camp brought teams from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia to join our American team at the orphanage in Bijela, Montenegro. Eighteen participants from these Balkan countries and the United States met together on the grounds of the orphanage in Montenegro and participated in workshops and seminars of interest to the university students. 

Humanitarian Assistance:

   Learning Center for Special Needs Children in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.  In 2009, TWI  financially  supported the Learning Center in Sarajevo that works with special needs children and their families. The Learning Center for Children with Special Needs in Sarajevo is designed to teach  children and their parents how to overcome  disability and become active, useful members of their communities. The Learning Center in Sarajevo has been working  with special needs children since 2002. The Center provides educational and emotional assistance to more than 75 children monthly with crafts, music and school instruction for the children and group therapy for the parents. 

 

Clothes for Orphans in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In October 2009, TWI, working with students from American University, provided 12 bags of donated clothing to orphanages in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
