TWI for the Children camps for children in Serbia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro - In June - July 2010, TWI for the Children hosted camps for more than 950 children in the Balkans. Camps were hosted in the village of Bata Bulic, Serbia. Three camps were held in Kosovo for more than 300 children and a picnic was held for 100 children and caregivers for the orphanage in Zenica, Bosnia. We also hosted a visit to the orphans at the Sarajevo Orphanage and a camp for 80 Roma children in Sarajevo. Our final camps were a two-day camp for the orphans at the orphanage in Mostar and a three-day camp with the orphans in the Bijela orphanage in Montenegro. During these camps TWI provided lunch meals for the children and gifts and crafts for the children. At two of the orphanages TWI provided donated clothes to the children. Costs for the camps, crafts, transportation and related travel cost were financed by TWI at more than $25,000.00.
Balkan Scholarship Students. During school year ending June 2010, TWI helped to host a Bosnian student studying in the United States. Dzan graduated from High School in New Jersey and has returned for his first year at the University of Sarajevo in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Dzan was an important leader during this years camps for kids in the Balkans.
Leadership Training Workshop in Montenegro. In July 2010, The TWI Leadership Workshop brought teams from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia to join our American team at the orphanage in Bijela, Montenegro. Twenty-four participants from these Balkan countries and the United States met together on the grounds of the orphanage in Montenegro and participated in a series of workshops and seminars of interest to the university students over a period of three-days. This year we were fortunate to have two volunteer instructors from the United States to conduct our Leadership Workshops. TWI financed the Leadership Workshop at a cost of more than $5,000.00
Learning Center for Special Needs Children in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2010, TWI provided financial support to the Learning Center in Sarajevo. This Center works with special needs children and their families. The Learning Center for Children with Special Needs in Sarajevo teaches children and their parents how to overcome disability and become active, useful members of their communities. The Learning Center in Sarajevo has been working with special needs children since 2002. The Center provides educational and emotional assistance to special needs children monthly with crafts, music and school instruction for the children and group therapy for the parents. TWI provided more than $9,000.00 to the Learning Center in 2010, but TWI is now unable to continue to provide financial support to the Center.
Administrative Costs:
TWI costs for office supplies, marketing (web-site), telephone, office equipment and freight was less than $3,000.00 for 2010. Directors and officers of TWI for the Children are not paid for their service. Administrative costs were less than 1% of the TWI costs.
