CURIOUS
GEORGE GOES TO THE CIRCUS!!
Purpose:
To build team spirit, teach
love and reconciliation and the importance
of working together by using stories, games, crafts, dance and music that are
fun, creative and rewarding AND most
importantly, to provide a day of love, fun and education to
children in the Balkans .
Group size:
4 groups of 25 campers, 1 Team USA leaders per
group and 1 Team Bosnian leader
per group.

 Starting Time:
9:00 A.M.
Prepare sign-in registration line.
REGISTRATION PREPARATION:
(9:00 - 9:30)
Prepare
registration table with nametags - name tags divided by color/shape.
Red, Green, Yellow, Blue)
Prepare
Free Time activity .
Blow up (beach-balls/animals).
Put basketballs, soccer balls and blow-up balls and animals in the gym.

ENTER AND REGISTER:
by filling out name tag and signing banner.

TWI
leader meets with the school director, informs him of the days
activities and invites his teachers to participate as they desire in
the day's activities.
FREE
TIME:
(9:00 - 9:30
A.M.) Campers go to the gym for free playtime
with members from Team Bosnia & Team USA.
CAMP
RULES & LANGUAGE LESSON:
(9:30 - 9:35 A.M.) Blow whistle and bring
the group
together in center of gym.
Go over the "camp rules",
and teach
English words needed for their "Curious
George goes to the Circus" camp.
Introduce Team USA and
Bosnian

colored flags designating their Circle Group.
 Groups are divided by color
- Ask
team leader to hold up colored flags and tell students to go to their color
group (chaotic but fun time). Teach an
"Affirmation"
chant in English that will identify their group.
Story:

Tell story
- "CURIOUS
GEORGE GOES TO THE CIRCUS!! " Group is
told the importance of being able to listen and remember what is
told because they never know when that information will be important.
"The story serves to test students memory, teamwork, and organizational
skills"

Ask group to accept
the task of putting
puzzles together with their team members. There are 4 puzzles to be
completed in this Game and how well you do depends on
how well you work as a team. As each group completes the puzzle they are
to return to their team leader and sit down.
30 MIN (10:50 - 11:20) 
(The
object of the activity is to:
> help the kids learn about countries around the world that have a
Circus Program,
> help them locate these countries on a world map,
> learn information about these countries and the people living there
as they "travel around the world to visit the Circus and,
> list the new friends they make.)

"How well can you organize yourself?" I'm going
to the Circus and this is what I'm going to take - "ORGANIZING MYSELF GAME"
30 MIN (11:20 - 11:40)
Ask
group to get in a circle. As you go around the
circle each person in the team says what he will pack in his
"Trip bag" that he will take with him to the CIRCUS. The test is to be able to repeat exactly what each person
to your left you said he/she was taking to the CIRCUS! Entire group participates.

"Crafts to
represent the Circus"
The
objective of this activity is
for the kids to make a craft object they can keep as a way to remember their
day at Camp with Curious George as he goes around the world to visit the
Circuses.

will come from the countries to be visited.
The
objective of this activity
is to teach music and dances that represent the different countries that have
circus.

to teach leadership skills; promote team work and encourage
friendship-building around the world.

Provide Gifts to the campers,
principal and teachers during closing ceremony.
RESULTS
During
our 2006 Camps to Kids
We worked with
more than 900 children during July 2006. We worke with campers attending
camps at schools in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. We will host a 2-day camp for Children with
Special Needs & their families
at the "House of Peace" at Rama and 2-day camps at the orphanages in Mostar
and Montenegro. We also hosted a mini-camps at an orphanage
in Zenica. Additionally, we provided a camp for persons
with Special Needs in Srebrenica.
Our
team took to Bosnia:
