Schedule of Events

The purpose of this page is to provide the plan for a typical daily schedule of events for the TWI 2006 Camp for Kids. The theme of this years camp is "CURIOUS GEORGE GOES TO THE CIRCUS". We show the campers that anything is possible when you try your best. We provide stories, games, crafts and dance activities to show each camper that he or she is special and able to complete all missions assigned. "

Theme: CURIOUS GEORGE GOES TO THE CIRCUS!!

Purpose: To build team spirit, teach love and reconciliation and the importance of working together by using stories, games, crafts, dance and music that are fun, creative and rewarding AND most importantly, to provide a day of love, fun and education to children in the Balkans .

Group size: 4 groups of 25 campers, 1 Team USA leaders per group and 1 Team Bosnian leader per group.

Team Codes : color code group members with nametags with colors: Green (Canada), Blue (Russia) , RED (USA), Yellow (China).

Starting Time:
9:00 A.M. Prepare sign-in registration line.

REGISTRATION PREPARATION:

(9:00 - 9:30) Prepare registration table with nametags - name tags divided by color/shape. Red, Green, Yellow, Blue)

Prepare Banner: Hang the banner on the wall and provide magic markers for each child to sign his or her name on the banner.

Prepare Free Time activity. Blow up (beach-balls/animals). Put basketballs, soccer balls and blow-up balls and animals in the gym.

REGISTRATION :

CAMPERS ENTER AND REGISTER: by filling out name tag and signing banner.

Meet with School Director: TWI leader meets with the school director, informs him of the days activities and invites his teachers to participate as they desire in the day's activities.

FREE TIME:

(9:00 - 9:30 A.M.) Campers go to the gym for free playtime with members from Team Bosnia & Team USA.

CAMP RULES & LANGUAGE LESSON:

(9:30 - 9:35 A.M.) Blow whistle and bring the group together in center of gym. Go over the "camp rules", and teach English words needed for their "Curious George goes to the Circus" camp.

Introduce Team USA and Bosnian Partners by Color/nametag -

(9:35 - 9:50)Team leaders have colored flags designating their Circle Group.

Groups are divided by color - Ask team leader to hold up colored flags and tell students to go to their color group (chaotic but fun time). Teach an "Affirmation" chant in English that will identify their group.

Story:

(9:50 - 10:00)

Tell story - "CURIOUS GEORGE GOES TO THE CIRCUS!! " Group is told the importance of being able to listen and remember what is told because they never know when that information will be important.

"The story serves to test students memory, teamwork, and organizational skills"

Games and Activities:
( Reinforce Story)

(10:00 - 11:45)

Game #1: "How good is your memory?" - Use "Were you listening Quiz Game"

20 MIN (10:00 A.M - 10:20 AM.)

Game #2: "How well can you work with your team members?" Use the "Puzzle Game"

30 MIN (10:20 - 10:50)

Ask group to accept the task of putting puzzles together with their team members. There are 4 puzzles to be completed in this Game and how well you do depends on how well you work as a team. As each group completes the puzzle they are to return to their team leader and sit down.

Game #3: "Activity Book" A fill-in-the blanks booklet for each camper about the countries to be visited and the friends they make. Each Country Group will work with kids to answer the questions.

30 MIN (10:50 - 11:20)

(The object of the activity is to:

> help the kids learn about countries around the world that have a Circus Program,

> help them locate these countries on a world map,

> learn information about these countries and the people living there as they "travel around the world to visit the Circus and,

> list the new friends they make.)

Game #4: "How well can you organize yourself?" I'm going to the Circus and this is what I'm going to take - "ORGANIZING MYSELF GAME"

30 MIN (11:20 - 11:40)

Ask group to get in a circle. As you go around the circle each person in the team says what he will pack in his "Trip bag" that he will take with him to the CIRCUS. The test is to be able to repeat exactly what each person to your left you said he/she was taking to the CIRCUS! Entire group participates.

Curious George goes to the CIRCUS - "GROUP EVENTS":

(45 Minutes includes time for movement between Events.)

Event #1: Craft : "Crafts to represent the Circus"

The objective of this activity is for the kids to make a craft object they can keep as a way to remember their day at Camp with Curious George as he goes around the world to visit the Circuses.

45 min each : (1) Blue and Red Groups: (11:45-12:30)

Make CIRCUS CRAFTS. -

Event #1: Music/Dance Dances and Songs will come from the countries to be visited.

The objective of this activity is to teach music and dances that represent the different countries that have circus.

45 min. (1) Yellow Group: (11:45 - 12:30)

Event #1: Games: A series of games and sport activities similar to those seen at the circus.

The objective of this activity is to learn new games and physical skills; to teach leadership skills; promote team work and encourage friendship-building around the world.

45 min. (1) Green: 11:45 - 12:30

LUNCH -

(12:30 - 1300) After Lunch is completed: Free time in Gym to play games.

Song Time :

(1250 - 1300). Gather campers into their circle groups.

(Remind groups to go to new circle color.) Move groups to CIRCUS Event #2

Event #2: Craft : Activity to represent the Circus

45 min each : (2) Yellow: (1:00 - 1:45)

Develop crafts.

Event #2: Music/Dance

45 min. (2) Green Group: (1:00 - 1:45)

Event #2: Games: Groups will be divided into two teams

45 min. (2) Blue Group: 1:00 - 1:45

Move to Event #3: (1:45)

Curious George goes to the Circus - EVENT 3:

Event #3: Craft : Circus related crafts

45 min each : (2) Green Group: (1:45 - 2:30)

Create Crafts.

Event #3: Music/Dance

45 min. (2) Blue: (1:45 - 2:30)

Event #3: Games: Groups will be divided into two teams

45 min. (2) Yellow: (1:45 - 2:30)

Final Ceremony:

(2:30 - 3:00) All together in Gymnasium.

FINAL STORY:

( Reinforces the values of the story told in the morning.)

GIVE GIFTS: Provide Gifts to the campers, principal and teachers during closing ceremony.

RESULTS

During our 2006 Camps to Kids

We worked with more than 900 children during July 2006. We worke with campers attending camps at schools in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. We will host a 2-day camp for Children with Special Needs & their families at the "House of Peace" at Rama and 2-day camps at the orphanages in Mostar and Montenegro. We also hosted a mini-camps at an orphanage in Zenica. Additionally, we provided a camp for persons with Special Needs in Srebrenica.
