Preparation Time passed quickly!!  Read about Preparations you should make for the trip!

Transportation :

  • (All purchased air tickets, but hope you purchased TRAVEL INSURANCE) You must check the dates and times and place of departure to ensure that all are correct.

  • Our  team car and van was packed with team members and  baggage. We take 3 interpreters an our team members. Our car only carries 5 persons. We are packed very tight.

We brought 19 extra bags of camp supplies on the plane to Bosnia. Kristen brought the gift balls and each team member has a carry-on bag for his/her personal gear.

Additional Preparations

The camp experience was rewarding but exhausting. We were prepared to be tired.

  •   You must be in good physical condition and  up to the challenge of working all day with 100 children. Start getting in shape early!  Walking and daily physical exercise are a must.

  • Camp  volunteers interact with  children and teachers from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. It was a tough daily schedule followed by long trips to the next location.

  • Lunch time was spent with the children and there are no breaks during the day. We  ate at the schools and at the orphanages.

  •   Most  camps were one-day in length followed by travel to the next town. There is little time to rest between camps.

  • Transportation was without air conditioning.  The van is old and susceptible to break-down, but we know the van will require frequent rest stops and  sometimes needs help in getting up the hills.

  • Accommodations was with widows in a home environment  or in very small hotels or at the orphanages. It is definitely not a vacation at 5-star hotels.

  • Meals were taken at local cafe's, restaurants or homes.

Modern conveniences are seldom found in most of the areas we visit.

 Participant Paperwork

Volunteers for the TWI Team MUST submit a completed Application; a Release from Liability Form and  their passport photo. The information   provided  us  on the application is important part in  determining how we considered using you in our camp program

  • Our teams  practice  group tasks.  Training days are held (when possible) when we arrive in the Balkans.

  • Each volunteer should know about our administrative details; some Balkan political and cultural differences, and the cultural opportunities we offer.

Coordination:

  •   Please  use e-mail as the primary way of corresponding with us.

We look forward to accomplishing  wonderful projects each year in Bosnia,  and in Montenegro. Read what a typical camp day will look like. Be certain to look at things to take with you and what you should do in preparation for your trip to the Balkans.

Additional funds are needed to properly accomplish our summer camps for children in the Balkans.  Please Donate now by credit card to help the TWI Program.
