Preparation Time passed quickly!!  Read about Preparations you should make for the trip!

Transportation :

  • (You must purchase your air tickets, but  you should consider purchasing TRAVEL INSURANCE) Check the dates and times and place of departure to ensure that all are correct.

  • Our  team car and van will be packed with team members and  baggage. We take 3 interpreters an our team members. Our car only carries 5 persons. We are packed very tight.

We may have to bring extra bags of camp supplies on the plane to the Balkans.

Additional Preparations

The camp experience will be rewarding but exhausting. Be prepared to be tired.

  •   You must be in good physical condition and  up to the challenge of working all day with 100 children. Start getting in shape early!  Walking and daily physical exercise are a must.

  • Camp  volunteers interact with  children and teachers from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. It was a tough daily schedule followed by long trips to the next location.

  • Lunch time is spent with the children and there are no breaks during the day. We  eat at the schools and at the orphanages.

  •   Most  camps are one-day in length followed by travel to the next town. There is little time to rest between camps.

  • Transportation is without air conditioning.  The van is old and susceptible to break-down, but we know the van will require frequent rest stops and  sometimes needs help in getting up the hills.

  • Accommodations is with widows in a home environment, in very small hotels or at the orphanages. It is definitely not a vacation at 5-star hotels.

  • Meals were taken at local cafe's, restaurants or homes.

Modern conveniences are seldom found in most of the areas we visit.

 Participant Paperwork

Volunteers for the TWI Team have submited a completed Application; a Release from Liability Form and  their passport photo. The information  you provide  us  on the application is important part in  determining how we consider using you in our camp program

  • Each volunteer should know about our administrative details; some Balkan political and cultural differences, and the cultural opportunities we offer.

Coordination:

  •   Please  use e-mail as the primary way of corresponding with us.

We look forward to accomplishing  wonderful projects each year in the Balkans. Read what a typical camp day will look like. Be certain to look at things to take with you and what you should do in preparation for your trip to the Balkans.
