TWI for the Children, Inc. supports projects that assist persons and activities with special needs.  Since 1999, TWI has funded two projects, The Family Retreat for families having children with special needs and the Learning Center for Children with Special Needs. TWI also provides support to persons and individual organizations on an "as needed" basis.   
   Family Retreat at Rama:

Annually, TWI hosts a 2-day retreat  for  children with special needs and their families at the "House of Peace" in Rama central Bosnia-Herzegovina, during the summer. At this camp the children and  their families  play games, take part in crafts, songs, dance and stories and  have an opportunity to relax with their families in a beautiful place of rest. This retreat is spiritual and relaxing plus providing an opportunity to have good food prepared by the Monastery's staff. The children are able to leave the confines of their small apartments in Sarajevo and enjoy the beauty of nature.  We encourage you to read about our success with this project (learn why TWI annually works to take  children with special needs and their families to a weekend retreat in the mountains of central Bosnia.)

 

      Learning Center for Special Needs Children in Sarajevo 

 

 In 2006, the “ Learning Center for Disabled Children ”, registered in Sarajevo, Bosnia as the Association of mothers with children with special needs “Joy of Life”, made Training Workshops International (TWI) for the Children, Inc. a member of their Advisory Board, serving as educational advisors for their children, teachers and parents. In this capacity, TWI for the Children, Inc. advises the Center on budget, evaluation, projects for teachers, caretakers and parents that teach such topics as how to work with children with disabilities, learning disorders, attention deficit disorders, trauma, drug and alcohol prevention and ways parents can work with their children in the home.  TWI for the Children has provided significant funding for the Learning Center, but this funding will be stopped in December 2009 due to lack of donations from sources other than TWI for the Children.  (Learn more about the Learning Center in Sarajevo.)

The Learning Center has increased the size of their facility and  improved their program by developing a musical activity for the children with special needs and new and innovative programs. TWI for the Children, Inc. provides  financial support to allow the Center to operate its physical plant and instructor base. The Learning Center also takes families to organized activities in park areas near Sarajevo.
