Bosnia and Herzegovina

The purpose of this page is to provide information on the TWI for the Children's Vocational Sewing Project and its leader and projects.

Jasna Hadzimehmedovic-Bekric

Jasna is one of the rare designers that are successful in all fields.  From 2002-2003, with the help of the American organization, TWI for the Children, Inc., Jasna  developed and taught a Vocational Sewing Project to help teenaged orphans.

Vocational Sewing Project

The TWI for the Children's Vocational Sewing Project dealt with a special category of young people - children without family who after leaving the orphanage have to start independent life.  Jasna worked with four girls and two boys who were formerly lived in the orphanage in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. These students graduated from the Sewing Project and have found work in the community.

This creative group produced patchwork blankets, which were sold out at the Holiday Spirit Bazaar in Sarajevo.  Material was donated from the United States and the students cut  and assemble them  by  color and the topic. As reactions to the products were very positive, Jasna decided to offer them in a number of places in Sarajevo.

Jasna worked twice a week with these creative young people and at the same time prepared her new collection for a  fashion show. She now has  "ready to wear" collections --  for women and  for men.  There is also a collection of evening dresses.

Other Activities

Customers to the Vocational Sewing Center obtained styling advice, for unique design and perfect production of clothes.  A second product was cosmography.  In the attic of the Sewing Center is a storage area for her costumes.  This is a small collection, but is useful for TV and Movie costume production.

Jasna made costumes for a  Bosnian movie and did the costume design.  She made a new fashion collection.

She was  involved in a National TV show as stylist and designer and has an opportunity to use her clothes from previous fashion shows.
