Sewing Center
TWI for the Children's
Vocational Sewing Center
Purpose
The Sewing Project was established for 'at risk' teens in the orphanage who would have to leave their orphanage and live as adults. The older teens missed years of school because their schools didn't function during the war. This program was designed to:
teach these teens job skills through sewing projects;
keep them from becoming children of the street;
and, help them find proper jobs.
The Vocational Sewing Center was a
successful career
building program for "at-risk" teenage
orphans
preparing
to leave their orphanages.
The Center taught skills necessary for finding a job after leaving the orphanage.
The Center provided scholarships to the students to pay for transportation to and from the orphanages and for personal needs.
The Center also
helped
students who completed the basic course but did not want to make sewing a
career find a job in the career of their choice.

Advanced Course:

Success Stories:
All
of
the teens in the initial basic course graduated and were
provided certificates.
Assistance was provided to one student to find
a job as a security guard in Sarajevo.
