Vocational Sewing Center Project.

TWI for the Children completed a successful pilot project to provide instruction to teens having to leave orphanage. Instruction was provided in sewing, and small business skills. Phase II of this project is a test of the business plan for this project to determine if the project can be self-sufficient and still continue to train the teenaged orphans.

Coping with Trauma Training Workshop Project

TWI for the Children with the assistance of noted professionals in the field of children trauma, conducted workshops on how to identify and treat persons suffering from war-related trauma.

In March 2001, workshops were conducted at  five major Bosnian orphanages for staff, directors and teachers in local schools. Taking workshops to the orphanages optimizes the number of staff that we can reach and allows our professionals to see the problems on-site.

In July 2001, TWI for the Children hosted a two-day workshop for 48 staff, directors, teachers and NGO personnel, at a central location in Bosnia. This workshop consisted of workshops and group discussions on trauma related problems. It also served as a catalyst for reconciliation.

"TWI for the Children"  hosted  a 2-day Coping with Trauma Training Seminar during the summer.

At this two-day seminar, held at the "House of Peace" in Rama central Bosnia, teachers, orphanage caregivers and social workers participated in workshops designed to provide instruction in recognizing  signs in children that may indicate that the child could be traumatized or have attention deficit disorder.  Workshops were taught by American professionals who work with disturbed children and teach instructional skills for persons working with disturbed children.

Assessment of War Related Trauma:

In November 2001, TWI began to conduct an assessment of war-related trauma in children, adolescents and women. Surveys were developed, translated and coordinators hired. Completed surveys were received from more than 50 people.
